About

Automated mowing solutions for airport safety areas

ECHO Airport Services deploys reliable mowing robots to maintain airport safety areas, in accordance with the strictest safety standards. Extensive testing at Stavanger Airport in Norway showed that robotic mowing is a cost-effective and sustainable 24/7 solution tailored to airports. What’s more, it significantly reduces the presence of birds and mammals.

ECHO Airport Services builds on the expertise of Yamabiko Europe, the specialist in robotic mowing of large grass surfaces. Yamabiko Europe is part of Yamabiko, a world leader in outdoor equipment, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Since 2017, ECHO Airport Services has been successfully deploying solar-powered mowing robots at Stavanger airport in Norway.

26 mowing robots trim every square meter of the safety areas at low height every 72 hours. Experience shows this drastically limits the presence of birds and mammals in the turf, thus minimising the risk for bird strikes.

Automatic mowing also greatly simplifies operations and reduces costs: no need for qualified personnel working off-hours, staff training, safety clearance and heavy equipment…

After this successful deployment, a decision has been made to expand automatic mowing at other airports of the Avinor group.
